Choosing An Effective Dog Training Collar
Patrick Solomon
The type of dog
training collar you choose depends entirely on the end result
that you are looking for. One of the best collars for training
dogs is the shock collar. Many dog lovers won’t purchase this
type of collar for fear that it will cause the animal harm. In
fact, the shock that the dog receives is equivalent to shocking
yourself due to static electricity. However, it works wonder in
correcting bad habits in dogs.
One of the most
popular of these collars is the remote activated collar. There
is a small device that is placed on the leash of the dog and the
owner can shock the animal from a distance with a remote. This
is perhaps the most effective dog training collar because it
teaches the dog instantly what he can and cannot do.
This is
especially successful in training your dog to remain in the
yard. Simply put the collar on and let your dog roam free in
the yard. Every time it goes out of the boundaries, hit the
remote to deliver a small shock. In the dog’s brain, it will
associate leaving the yard to a shock. After only a few
sessions, the dog will be able to roam the yard without the
collar. And once they have learned their boundaries, it is rare
for a dog to cross them in the future.
If your dog is
prone to jumping up on people, this dog training collar can help
in that regard as well. If you know that someone is coming
over, simply put the collar on and wait. When the dog jumps up
on your guest, hit the remote to deliver a small shock. After
only a few times you will realize that your dog no longer jumps
on your visitors.
Many dog owners
dream of the day that they are able to walk their dogs without a
leash. With the shock dog training collar, this dream can
become a reality. It is a good idea to do the initial training
in an area that won’t have a lot of people and cars, so that the
dog does not get distracted. Simply put the collar on and start
walking. Once the dog gets too far away from you, give them a
small shock and then call them over. Try to always shock them
when they reach about the same distance from you. This will
give the dog a good idea of how close they should stay to you.
This might take
a few attempts before you can remove the leash. Dogs tend to
get distracted very easily, especially if you live in a
neighborhood with other dogs or wildlife. However, it is
important to not lose faith. Persistence is the key when
training your dog to walk without a lease so you need to remain
patient.
